This full-time programme provides students with the opportunity to engage in farm management and operational activities relevant to Animal Production.
This qualification will form the basis for learners to extend their learning into more specialised areas of animal production and provides the basis of the establishment of sustainable farming operations through the inclusion of a wide spectrum of competencies required by farmers. Whilst technical production orientated competencies are ensured, other aspects such as fundamentals and principles of animal production are included in the range of competencies required by farmers in order to enable them to strive towards animal production standards and principles at higher levels.
Competent qualifying learners in this qualification will oversee quality agricultural products in Animal Production whereby enhancing the overall agricultural process and gain opportunities to access local, national and international agricultural markets.
Description
On achieving this qualification, the learner will be able to:
- Explain animal classification and natural history
- Explain intermediate animal nutrition
- Explain functional animal anatomy and physiology
- Implement a food safety and quality management system in the agricultural supply chain
- Participate in the development and management of an agribusiness plan
- Evaluate, adjust and implement factors influencing agricultural enterprises
- Apply procedures to manage damage control in animals and victims
- Plan & maintain breeding systems
- A farm budget and a proper information system
- Apply knowledge of statistics and probability
- Accommodate audience and context needs in oral communication
- Interpret a variety of literary texts
- Participate In the Development and Management of an Agricultural Marketing Plan
- Control feedlot production unit
- Evaluate, adjust and implement factors influencing agricultural enterprises.
